‘Enjoying it more than ever’: Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs signs new one-year deal to stay at Old Trafford

Ryan Giggs has signed a new one-year contract with Manchester United which will see the most-decorated footballer in the country play into his 23rd season.

The deal keeps Giggs, who turns 40 this year, at Old Trafford until June 2014.

Since making his debut in 1991, he has made a made a record 931 appearances, scoring 168 goals, and his performances this season have had fans clamouring for a contract extension.

Sir Alex Ferguson told the club website said: “Ryan seems to reach a new milestone every week and to think that he now has 23 unbroken years of league goals behind him is truly amazing in the modern-day game.

“His form this year shows his ability and his enjoyment of the game are as strong as ever and I am absolutely delighted that he has signed a new contract.”

Giggs’ phenomenal club trophy haul includes 12 Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, two UEFA Champions Leagues, one Super Cup, an Intercontinental Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup.

Despite the fact that he will now be playing in to his 40s, Giggs is excited to be part of a team who are again pushing for trophies.

He said: “I am feeling good, enjoying my football more than ever and, most importantly, I feel I am making a contribution to the team.

“I am delighted to have signed a new contract. I would like to thank Sir Alex and the coaching staff and I would also like to thank David Gill who has been a tremendous support over my many years here.”
