'Psycho Stapleton' due in court over murder of Indian student Anuj Bidve in Salford shooting

By Dean Wilkins

A Salford man is in court today accused of killing Indian student Anuj Bidve on Boxing Day last year.

Kiaran Stapleton, 21, from Ordsall, Salford, will enter a plea after being charged with murdering the Indian student, 23, from Prune.

The accused described himself as ‘Psycho Stapleton’ when asked his name at an earlier court hearing.

Mr Bidve was a ‘promising and clever’ scholar at Lancaster University and was shot in the head and point blank range at around 1.30am while travelling to the city centre with a group of friends on December 26.

The micro-electronics student, who arrived in the UK in September 2011, died a short time later in hospital.

The plea and case management hearing will take place at 10am today at Manchester Crown Court.
