The new Gareth Bale? Andres Iniesta says defences in for tough ride with Manchester City new boy Navas

Manchester City’s summer signing Jesus Navas can have the same impact on English football as Welsh superstar Gareth Bale, according to Spanish team-mate Andres Iniesta.

Navas, 27, moved to the Etihad Stadium last month from La Liga side Sevilla for around £15million before going to Brazil and the Confederations Cup with Spain.

And Barcelona star Iniesta – who scored the winning goal in the 2010 World Cup final – believes his compatriot will give Premier League defences nightmares next season.

“He’s going to cause the defences in the Premier League a real problem when he plays for City,” he told the Sunday Mirror.

“The only player that I can compare him with that is already playing in England is Gareth Bale.

“Jesus has so much speed, and his feet are so quick, that it becomes nearly impossible to stop him without fouling him.”

Navas has so far spent his entire career in Andalusia and scored 34 goals in 393 Sevilla appearances, winning both the World Cup and European Championships with his country.

His purchase – along with Brazilian attacking midfielder Fernandinho – is part of a £50million spending spree by the former Premier League champions so far this summer.

New City boss Manuel Pellegrini is also pursuing Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, but the Citizens are unwilling to pay his €63million release clause.
