Into the Lion’s den? Manchester United flop Marouane Fellaini could be off to Napoli

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis made Switzerland captain Gokhan Inler wear a lion’s mask at his press unveiling in 2011…

… so what would Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini don should the Belgian depart Old Trafford?

De Laurentiis has stated his interest in the midfielder, who failed to score in 21 appearances last season at United and is likely to fall down the pecking order after the signing of Spaniard Ander Herrera.

New United boss Louis van Gaal is also chasing fellow Dutchman Kevin Strootman to bolster the midfield so Fellaini may have played his last game for the club.

“They would make a nice pair,” said the Napoli president on Italian radio station Kiss Kiss of a potential midfield partnership comprising Inler and Fellaini.

“Fellaini has long hair, and the Swiss is shaven. Together they have a hairstyle that looks like a lion’s mane.”

The move could be a good one for Fellaini with the 26-year-old certain to miss out on European action this season if he stays at United.

On the other hand, Napoli won the Coppa Italia and finished third in Serie A last season under 2005 Champions League winning coach Rafael Benitez.
