Single punch leaves Manchester reveller fighting for life… after argument over football on night out

A 49-year-old reveller is fighting for his life in hospital after being punched following a night out in Manchester city centre.

The victim was assaulted around 3.10am on King Street West following an argument between two men about football.

The man was punched and hit his head on the pavement after falling over before he was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Detective Constable Mike Burns said: “The victim had been enjoying a night out with a friend with both of them deciding to buy some takeaway food.

“As they walked along King Street West, an argument started with two men about football.  Shortly after this, the victim was punched.

“The man was knocked unconscious and is now fighting for his life in hospital.

“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the assault or the events that led up to the attack to contact police as soon as possible.”

The two men ran off in the direction of Deansgate towards Bridge Street following the incident.

One man is described as white, 6ft tall and of slim build.  The other was Asian, 5ft 7in tall of medium hair and had black hair.
