Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes are making way for youth as Manchester United travelled to Romania without their regular first-teamers.
Carrick and Giggs were ruled out of training due to illness and 37-year-old Scholes will be rested after playing the full 90 minutes during Tottenham’s 3-2 victory at Old Trafford.
But the Reds will be boosted by the return of Jonny Evans after the centreback was declared fit-to-play despite limping off injured on Saturday.
"Michael did not report today. He is in bed with a virus," Sir Alex Ferguson admitted today.
"Ryan had a bit of a virus this morning, he was feeling a bit rough so we sent him home.
"Paul Scholes played ever so well on Saturday but he is 37 now and we couldn't expect him to play three days later at his age."
United travel to Romanian champions CFR Cluj for their second Champions League group game tomorrow.
