Tweet Tweet, it’s the sound of the police: Manchester officers support global Twitter Day promoting hard work

Greater Manchester Police are tweeting away today in a new campaign in support of global Twitter Day.

The campaign aims to highlight the hard work and dedication of police and law enforcement agencies across Canada, America and in the UK and was first held in March.

The latest event started today as neighbourhood officers will be raising awareness of their work and giving people an insight into what happens throughout the day.

Deputy Chief Constable Ian Hopkins, the national lead for digital engagement, said: “We are delighted to be able to support the initiative and highlight the work that we are doing every day to keep the area safe.

“It is an opportunity to give people an insight into what we do but also I hope people will be encouraged to connect with their local neighbourhood teams.”

So far officers across the UK have been tweeting this morning keeping other Twitter users up to date with what they are doing to keep the public safe.

GMP has around 100 accounts on Twitter and Facebook with a combined almost half a million followers to the social media accounts.

DCC Hopkins will be taking part in a webchat about the police use of social media at 11am during the twitter day through the GMP website www.gmp.police.uk .

“The day will give us a chance to not only show what the neighbourhood teams are doing but also to provide a window into the world of the supporting departments including traffic, dog and mounted units.”

People will be able to check out what is happening through the GMP Twitter accounts or by using the global hashtag #poltwt.
