From bottom to top in six games? Dougie Freedman plots Bolton Wanderers’ Championship assault

By Tom Belger

Turn draws into three points and start racking up the wins, then Bolton Wanderers can dream of challenging for the Championship, says manager Dougie Freedman.

Bolton, who have only won once all season and sit 21st, will be aiming to make it successive away victories this weekend as they travel to the south coast to face Bournemouth on Saturday.

Manager Dougie Freedman believes Bolton are close to turning their season around despite their lowly position.

“We’re sitting here in a confident mood. Six games can get you from bottom to top of the league,” Freedman said in his weekly press conference.

“We’re very close. We’re on an undefeated run but it doesn’t feel like it. We now need to change draws into wins.

“You’ll now see us adapting our system when we go a goal up. We know we aren’t far away.”

The last time the two sides met at Dean Court was 20 years ago and on that occasion the Trotters ran out 2-1 winners.

Freedman though knows victory this weekend will be much harder to come by.

“Bournemouth have done very well. They bought some very good players.”

Eddie Howe’s side have enjoyed a good start to life in the Championship and are currently 11th having picked up notable home victories against Wigan Athletic and south London clubs Charlton Athletic and Millwall.

Both sides have no fresh injury concerns and Bournemouth could give a debut to new on loan keeper Lee Camp.

Bolton won their last away fixture 2-1 at Birmingham and a similar result on Saturday could help the Trotters turn their dismal start to the season around.
