Rusholme man left fighting for life after vicious punch in ‘targeted’ attack

A 30-year-old man has been left fighting for his life after being punched in a ‘targeted attack’ in Rusholme.

Police were called to Heald Avenue, near the Curry Mile, at around 4pm on Saturday November 29.

The victim was found unconscious on the ground with severe head injuries and was later rushed to hospital.

The man is being treated at Salford Royal where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Chief Inspector Crompton said: “The victim was walking on Santiago Street when he was approached by a man who started arguing with him.

“The victim tried to back away but the man punched him, knocking him to the ground. The offender then got into the rear of a dark coloured saloon car and was driven off.

“We believe this is a targeted attack which has left a man fighting for his life in hospital.”

Police have launched a full investigation and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Chief Inspector Crompton added: “There would have been a number of witnesses in the area who saw what happened and I would urge them to call us.”
