Missing since New Year's Eve: Police search for Manchester student last seen at Warehouse Project

By Dean Wilkins

Concerns for a missing New Year’s Eve celebrator are growing as police continue their search for a student last seen at Manchester’s Warehouse Project.

Teenager Souvik Pal was reported missing by a flatmate at around 5.30am on New Year’s Day after heading to the famous music venue on Trafford Wharf Road.

But after failing to return home, the Indian international student’s friends alerted police – who are now appealing for the public’s help.

Detective Chief Inspector Colin Larkin said: "It has now been more than 24 hours since we have been carrying out our enquiries and we are growing increasingly concerned for Souvik’s safety.

"He has never been reported missing before.

"Specialist officers have been in contact with Souvik's family in India and our understanding is that his father will be coming to the UK, such is the level of concern from his loved ones.

"We have been speaking to people who were at the Warehouse Project who saw him, however it would help us greatly if we heard from anyone else there who can help us.

"We believe that he was asked to leave the club at 1.30am, so anyone who was leaving at the time is and who may have seen where he went is asked to call us."

He is Asian, 5ft 7in tall, of slim build. He is an international student from India and speaks with an Indian accent. He has a scar on the right side of his forehead.

When last seen he was wearing a pale denim long sleeve shirt with a collar, grey chino trousers, navy blue leather boots.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4223 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
