Kick off or cook-off? Is ex-Man United star Phil Neville going from footy to foodie?

Phil Neville may not have known how to cook until three months ago, but he now has his sights set on owning his own restaurant within two years.

Admittedly, that ambition was stated in a very tongue-in-cheek interview the ex-Manchester United, Everton and England footballer conducted with home appliances giant Beko.

In a Q&A discussing his domestic capabilities, Neville revealed his desire to improve his culinary repertoire, but conceded that he’s maybe not quite as sharp when it comes to other household responsibilities.

“I’d never cooked in my life before, up until about three months ago,” the treble-winning United legend revealed.

“Now I’m getting into cooking. It’s going to sound silly this, but I can make an omelette, which is one of my favourite breakfasts.

“I want to learn how to make a really nice pasta dish. I’m getting there, I’m improving, maybe in a couple of years time I’ll own my own restaurant, making people penne a la Neville or some fantastic dish.”

Neville, also revealed that although he helps his wife to change the bed, he has a problem with folding the sheets.

Furthermore, when he does the cleaning his wife tends to go back over it anyway, and he is categorically banned from using an iron.

Thankfully for Phil, he has plenty of football-related activities to be keeping him away from the frying pans and feather dusters, with a promising career as a BBC pundit flourishing alongside his studies for the FA Uefa Pro Licence that would allow him to manage in the Premier League.

Although penne a la Neville sounds like it has the potential to be a gastronomical delight, perhaps ‘Fizzer’ should be persuaded to put his restaurateur ambitions on the shelf and stick to football.
