Elderly woman, 96, found dead in Oldham home – body could have laid there for a year

It is believed an elderly woman found dead in her Oldham home could have laid there for up to a year.

Officers were called to a house on South Hill Street on Wednesday afternoon and on their arrival discovered the body of a 96-year-old woman.

The cause of death has not yet been established, though Greater Manchester Police do not believe there were any suspicious circumstances.

A man was later arrested on suspicion of failure to notify a death and has since been bailed.

A greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “At about 1.55pm on Wednesday 30 April 2014, police were called to a house on South Hill Street, Oldham to reports of a concern for welfare.

“When officers attended they found the body of a 96-year-old woman. There will be a post mortem to establish the cause of her death.

“A man was arrested on suspicion of failure to notify death, he has been bailed pending further enquiries.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of death, but at this stage in the investigation there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.”
