Murder suspect buys snacks and drinks from Eccles shop only hours before Linzi Ashton’s death

By Danielle Wainwright

The suspected killer of Salford mum Linzi Ashton was caught on CCTV buying snacks and drinks from a local shop on Friday, hours before her murder.

Police have issued the footage which shows 28-year-old Michael Cope in Best One on Liverpool Road, Eccles, at about 10.45pm on June 28.

Linzi was found dead at her home on Westbourne Road, Winton by relatives shortly before 6pm the next day with pressure to her neck and multiple injuries.

A £5,000 reward will be given to anyone with information that will lead to Cope’s arrest.

Chief Superintendent Kevin Mulligan said: “Our efforts to trace Michael Cope are on-going and we have released this footage in the hope that people may recognise the man filmed, whom we believe to be Michael.

“We believe that this sighting is from before Linzi’s murder, and we also believe that at some point on Friday night he was with her.

“At this moment Cope knew that he was wanted by police, which is why we think he is wearing a hooded top. It is also possible that Cope will have changed his clothes since this sighting.

“I also want to reiterate that Cope is a dangerous man and should not be approached. Anyone who sees him should call 999 immediately. “

Anyone with information can police on 0161 856 5092 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
