Tour de France spectators urged to share footage of historic event in Manchester for unique film

Manchester bike enthusiasts are being urged to capture and share footage of this weekend’s historic Tour de France for a unique film.

Spectators are being invited by online smartphone retailer Mobiles.co.uk to upload their footage of the race as it speeds through Yorkshire and the North West.

Onlookers will be able to view the race on three different stages across the UK: Leeds to Harrogate, York to Sheffield and Cambridge to London.

And whether they record the start of the race, funny costumes or the deafening cheers from the crowds, the best clips will make it into the film and create a lasting reminder of the event.

The best entry from each race stage will win a GoPro Hero3, while the overall winner will also receive a Sony Xperia Z2.

Jay Karsandas, Digital Manager at Mobiles.co.uk, said: “The Tour de France is a huge deal for the UK, in particular for those who will see the action up close and really experience the atmosphere.

“We want to mark it by producing a powerful video of their experiences, sharing the best bits that people who weren’t there would like to have seen.

“Over 90 per cent of us now own a mobile phone and no doubt take it everywhere with us, so this is the perfect opportunity to use them and create a lasting memory of those key moments.”

Entries are accepted via YouTube, Instagram and Vine, using the hashtag #TDFfilm. All entrants must include details of where the clip was filmed and which smartphone it was filmed on.

The competition closes at midnight on Tuesday July 8.
