Home and away records on the line as Wigan host Walsall with all to play for

Wigan welcome high flying Walsall to the DW on Saturday after late drama in midweek preserved their unbeaten home record.

An injury time Will Grigg equaliser salvaged a point against Millwall in a game where yet again they took the lead, only to be pegged back soon after.

This time around there may be no room for error as Walsall, unbeaten away from home have had a storming start to the season.

Wigan know they really could do with a win if they are to keep up with the rest of the pack but know that they will have to be at their best if they are to get anything from the game.

Late saviour Grigg was delighted to make a goal scoring return from injury, but admitted the team were disappointed not to have capitalised on taking the lead.

“It was a dramatic end to the game, it’s a good ball into the box from Tim (Chow) and Crackers (Michael Jacobs) was really brave to go in with the keeper.

“It fell nicely for me and I managed to swivel and get enough behind it to beat the defenders on the line.

“It’s good to come back into the team and get a goal because it’s been a frustrating few weeks having torn a ligament in my arm at Port Vale.

Although Wigan are expecting a tough game against the Saddlers, Grigg feels that their style of play may be beneficial to the home side.

“They’re flying at the moment, they’ve got a good bunch of lads, a good set up under their manager Dean Smith and we know it’s going to be a tough game.

“The boys are looking forward to it and I think it’s a game which will suit us.  They’ll try to pass the ball around and play the same style as ourselves, so it should be a good game to play in.”

Wigan confirmed on Friday the loan signings of two U21 internationals who both go straight into the squad for the weekend.

Former Holland U21 winger Yanic Wildschut has joined them on a three month loan from Middlesbrough and Scotland U21 defender Donal Love signs from Manchester United on a two month loan.

When questioned about Donald Love, Wigan manager Gary Caldwell told the clubs website: “We believe he has immense potential.”

Dean Smith’s Walsall side have conceded fewer goals than any other team in League One – just six in ten games and travel to the DW with no new injury concerns.
