‘All time low’: Dunn scolds Oldham squad as Latics make it six without a win

David Dunn has berated his Oldham players after they squandered a lead to draw 1-1 with Colchester at Boundary Park on Saturday.

The hosts’ Rhys Murphy netted his second in as many games since returning from a loan spell at Crawley, before ‘keeper David Cornell dropped a corner allowing Chris Porter to net a late equaliser, ending a nine-match losing streak for the Essex side.

But Dunn says he would still not have been happy had his side won, and pulled no punches in airing his frustration.

“I feel let down. This is the lowest I’ve been,” said the 35-year-old.

“We aren’t a good enough side to play with eight or nine players every week, and that is what we are doing so I feel sorry for some players in there who work their backsides off.

“The positives are difficult to acknowledge when I feel like this – as you can imagine, a little bit angry.

“We are very disappointed. I sound like a broken record, but it’s the same old story every single week.

“Can we keep saying a point is a start? Is it? Not for me. They are the games we have got to win.”

Murphy has been a breath of fresh air for Dunn, who maintains that a big transfer window is imperative if Latics – now in 22nd place and five points from safety – are to save their season.

After overseeing a winless December and with just two league wins to his name, Dunn says January is a huge month for the club off the field as well as on it.

“I want it to be a massive transfer window,” said Dunn.

“I’ve got certain players I want to bring in, but we’ll maybe leave that to the powers that be.

“We need to recruit better, because I can’t prepare a team who keep making individual errors. I don’t think Sir Alex Ferguson or Jose Mourinho could sort that out.”
