Dougie Freedman hopes Bolton’s ‘momentum and commitment’ can still bring late play-off success

By John McDougall

Dougie Freedman believes Bolton Wanderers’ late charge for the Championship play-offs is still on after their win over Huddersfield Town at the Reebok Stadium.

Chris Eagles’ second-half strike was enough to secure the Trotters’ sixth successive home league win over the relegation-threatened Terriers.

And Freedman feels that if his side keep ticking off the wins, other teams around them will be wary as the season approaches its climax.

“If we can keep the momentum going there’s a possible chance that other teams will be looking over their shoulder,” he told Bolton’s official website.

“If we can continue to play with the same commitment for the rest of the season, we’re always going to be in with a chance of winning games.

“We’ve had a couple of disappointing results of late, but I feel that we responded well. This result keeps us ticking along nicely. There’s a quiet determination about our group.

“We can never be faulted on our effort or desire to get three points and that’s just what you need at this stage of the season.”

The ex-Manchester United winger’s strike – his ninth of the season – gave the Trotters a 58th minute lead after firing in from deep inside the penalty area.

The win moves them into eighth in the Championship table, four points from the play-off places.

After facing a side fighting for their Championship status, Freedman was pleased at the Whites professional approach to the game.

“I thought we showed a determination, organisation and a real spirit,” said the Glaswegian.

“The lads were prepared to put their bodies on the line. Huddersfield were tough and they threw everything at us.

“We increased the tempo, were quicker to the ball, created chances and scored a well-worked goal.”
