Fancy seeing Real Madrid and Manchester United slug it out this summer? Book your flights to Michigan, USA

Fans of football in America will be licking their lips at the prospect of a matchup between two of Europe’s most successful clubs in Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Real, who have won a record nine European titles and United, three-times European champions, are set to face off at Michigan Stadium this summer as part of the International Champions Cup (ICC).

The fixture is expected to be detailed on Friday after the Athletic Department alerted members of the press for a special event announcement, which claimed a ‘historic event would be held at Michigan Stadium’.

Currently, the Real Madrid-Manchester United game is the only contest without a venue on the tournament’s website.

The International Champions Cup pits some of the world’s top club teams in elimination cup competition.

Real, who won the inaugural ICC last year, have a trophy cabinet filled with spoils from the illustrious past – which includes 32 La Liga titles.

The Red Devils have been crowned champions of England 20 times and are still in with a shout of lifting their third Champions League trophy after a solid 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

The two clubs feature some of the world’s greatest talents, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale at Real and Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney at United.

Other teams that are confirmed to play in the competition are Inter Milan, AC Milan, Roma, Liverpool, Manchester City and Olympiakos.
