Bury’s current form will seal promotion, predicts midfield ace Adams

Bury’s Nicky Adams has challenged his teammates to maintain their current form as he plans for an assault on the automatic promotion places.

After last weekend’s game against Southend United was postponed, the Shakers are now seven points behind Wycombe Wanderers in third with a game in hand.

And with Wycombe facing Burton Albion, who currently head the way, over the Easter period it could be a defining time for all clubs involved in the hunt.

“We’ve won seven of our last eight games and we’ve got eight games left so why can’t we do the same again? If we do we’re going up,” he said.

“The top three is the aim, we want automatic promotion because that is what we set out to do and we’ve given ourselves a good chance.

“We look [at the table] after every game because we’re chasing the top three but it doesn’t really matter as long as we can do what we need to do.”

Bury travel to League Two strugglers Cambridge United on Good Friday before welcoming Morecambe to the JD Stadium the following Monday.

And Adams, who returned to the club last summer, insists they are fully prepared for two difficult games in the space of four days after playing only six minutes against Southend.

The Shakers academy product says the players are in confident mood and are looking to take inspiration from their previous performances against both sides.

“When we played Cambridge at home we played really well and won convincingly but we know they’re a good side and it’s a difficult place to go,” he added.

“We’ve had two contrasting games against Morecambe, in the JPT game we could have beaten them by any score but then we went to their place and lost in the league.

“But whoever we play at home know they’re in for a difficult time because we’re a strong side, especially with the momentum we’ve got.”
