Video: Have you seen amazing goal by ‘next Ryan Giggs’? Manchester United offer wonderkid youth contract

By Glen Keogh

Potential stars of the next footballing generation have been added to Manchester United’s Academy squad ahead of the new season.

Following in the footsteps of Reds and England schoolboy graduates such as Bobby Charlton, the youngsters still have some way to making it alongside the likes of van Persie, but are well on the right path.

One boy of the ten first-year scholars signed has already made his debut at under 18 level and looks to be a star in the making.

Demetre Mitchell, 16, lit up the international stage last year with a mazy dribble and ferocious left footed finish in an England youth game against Northern Ireland.

A source close to the youngster, said: “Demetre really is special player and he could go on to do great things.

“He’s the next Ryan Giggs! He’s fast, has a great left foot and loves dribbling with the ball.”

Former England schoolboy stars include Michael Owen, leaving promising winger Mitchell with a lot to live up to.

Mitchell, who came on as a substitute in last season’s under 18’s defeat to Crystal Palace, is one of three Manchester-born prospects added to the youth setup alongside defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Devonte Redmond.

A spokesman for Manchester United said: “Demetre has a penchant for the spectacular.”

The full list of first-year scholars also includes Ruairi Croskery (forward), George Dorrington (goalkeeper), Dean Henderson (goalkeeper), Scott McTominay (midfielder), Joe Riley (midfielder), Jordan Thompson (midfielder) and Oliver Rathbone (under 17 student midfielder).
