While many thought Sir Alex Ferguson and Roberto Mancini had been busy in the transfer market this summer, it was actually a law firm close to home that completed the most deals.

Brabners Chaffe Street, which has a main office in Manchester, advised clubs on over 50 deals this summer, including a number with football giants Manchester United.

The firm were instrumental in the Reds’ pursuit of Robin van Persie from Arsenal, Japanese international Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund, Angelo Henriquez from Chile, Alexander Buttner from Vitesse Arnhem, and Nick Powell from Crewe Alexandra.

The firm also assisted United with the sales of Dimitar Berbatov to Fulham and long-serving Korean international Ji Sung Park who moved to Queens Park Rangers.

Matthew Bennett, a partner in the firm’s sport department, said that this year had proved to be a very busy transfer window with over £490 million being spent.

He said: “Brabners Chaffe Street are proud to have been involved in over fifty deals including a number of the most high profile transfers confirming our position as the leading football law firm in the UK.

“It is testament to the depth of experience in our team that we are able to assist a wide variety of clubs, both domestically and internationally, on increasingly complex deals as clubs start to conform to the new financial fair play regulations.”

The firm also offered immigration expertise by acting on a number of successful work permit appeals including Chilean youngster Angelo Henriquez’s move to Manchester United.
