Gig preview: The Wailers @ The Ritz, Manchester

Reggae lovers in Manchester will have the chance to hear one of the most celebrated albums of all-time in its entirety as The Wailers bring their Legend tour to the city this weekend.

The band will be performing the iconic, Legend, track-by-track live on stage at The Ritz, on Thursday November 6, which includes the hit songs Three Little Birds, I Shot the Sheriff and Jamming.

The 1984 record was the twelfth album released by Bob Marley and The Wailers and remains the best-selling reggae album, with over 250million copies sold worldwide.

Formed in 1969, members Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh began writing and recording material in Jamaica and went on to release 13 studio albums.

The band enjoyed huge success with ‘groundbreaking’ ska and reggae songs Simmer Down, Trenchtown Rock and Stir it Up.

Following the tragic death of Marley in 1981, the remaining members formed The Wailers Band and continued to perform their well-known hits around the globe.

The current line-up features Aston ‘Family Man’ Barrett on bass, Duane ‘Danglin’ Anglin on lead vocals, Keith Sterling on keyboards, Zeb ‘Drummy’ Williams on drums, Audley Chisholm on rhythm Guitar, Aston Barrett Jr. on percussion, and Cegee Victory on backing vocals.

Now well in to their fifth decade, The Wailers are still one of the most renowned reggae bands in music and continue to tour their much loved music whilst promoting peace, love and equality.

“Our music is the magic, the oxygen of the people. It’s the message of roots, culture and reality, meant to spread peace and love to all,” says Family Man.

Fresh from a string of performances at some of the UK’s leading festivals, including Glastonbury and V, the band are now gearing up to head back out on the road for the final leg of their UK Legend Tour – promising to spread ‘positive vibes’ along the way.

The band will play The Ritz, Manchester, on Thursday, November 6. For more information or to buy tickets, click here.
