Dreams of Cristiano Ronaldo return to Manchester United ‘false hope’: Sir Alex kills off second coming rumours

By Chris Bailey

Long-lost love Cristiano Ronaldo is not going to rekindle his Manchester United flame any time soon, according to Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Portuguese superstar is now into his fourth season with boyhood club Real Madrid – having left Old Trafford in an £80m megadeal in 2009.

And though Ronaldo has recently had his run-ins with Real’s management, Ferguson does not expect his protégé to reunite with the Red Devils.

“I don’t think there’s anything as far as I’m aware to encourage me that he’d come back here,” the Scot told manutd.com.”I don’t think there’s anything in that at all.

“I think he’s got two years left on his contract and it could be a lot to do with the fact that negotiations are ongoing for a new contract.

“But its false hope expecting Ronaldo to return.”

Though Ronaldo may favour Madrid to Manchester, the 28-year-old still maintains the utmost respect for his former club.

United fans have not forgot their hero either – still regularly singing the forward’s name – and Ferguson expects more of the same for the Champions League clash tomorrow.

“He’ll get a good reception,” he added.

“All our former players who come back, who have been great players, get a good reception.

“I’ve seen that all the time. I think, at the start of the game, he’ll get that.”
