'We've made Labour grovel for votes,' claims campaigner for Cheetham Independent election candidate in Manchester City Council

A Cheetham Independent campaigner claims they have made Labour 'grovel for votes' in this year's council elections.

Yasa Mamood, a campaigner for Indie candidate Shazia Butt, said: "Big things are going to happen in Cheetham."

"We've made Labour grovel for votes. They've even been out litter picking in their suits to combat our great, local campaigning."

"We've only been campaigning for six weeks, but what people have noticed is that Shazia represents the local community - she doesn't hold a party line and she isn't parachuted in like the other parties."

"We've really got them rattled and I wouldn't be surprised if we beat them tonight."

"Even if Shazia doesn't win, she's a winner in our eyes."
