Date announced of private military funeral for Drummer Lee Rigby, killed in Woolwich ‘terror’ attack

By Marios Papaloizou

Drummer Lee Rigby will have a private military funeral in Bury next Friday.

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed plans for the funeral as well a guard of honour which will keep a vigil over Drummer Rigby’s body the night before the service at a Bury parish church.

An MoD spokesman has announced that the service will be broadcast to outsiders via a PA system.

Father-of-one Drummer Rigby was brutally murdered in the street as he returned to his Woolwich barracks in May.

He was part of the 2nd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers which has close links to the area as its roots go back to the Bury-based Lancashire Fusiliers.

Two men – Michael Adebolajo, 28, and Michael Adebowale, 22  – have been charged with his murder and will stand trial at the Old Bailey on November 18.

Neither of the suspected killers have yet entered a plea in relation to Drummer Rigby’s death, and are due to do so at another hearing on September 27.
