By Danielle Wainwright

A woman suffered a broken foot after a robber yanked her handbag from her causing her to fall in Hyde on Saturday.

The 48-year-old woman had been walking near to Flowery Field Train Station on Rydal Avenue at around 9.30pm when she felt someone tugging at her handbag.

When she turned around she saw a man trying to prise the bag away from her and she tried to resist but fell when he violently yanked it from her.

She suffered a broken foot and other injuries while the robber fled toward Bennett Street and nearby railway bridge.

Detective Sergeant Lisa Ogden said: “Understandably, this woman has been left badly shaken up and she is now also nursing a physical injury.

“This demonstrates that the offender has no issue in using violence to get what he wants; we are doing all that we can to track him down.

“We also want to reassure the local community that following this incident patrols in the area have been stepped up.”

He is described as being a white man, about 5ft 8in tall and in his 30s. He was wearing a dark beanie hat and ‘puffa’ jacket.

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 9484 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
