Family pay tribute to cyclist killed in Altrincham collision with pedestrian

The family of a ‘loving’ woman who tragically died after a collision while cycling in Altrincham have paid tribute to her.

Karen Clayton, 49, was seriously injured after she collided with a pedestrian when riding her bicycle along Moss Lane on Friday January 2.

She was then taken to hospital but sadly died two days later on Sunday.

Her family said: “Karen was married to Andy for 14 years, she loved travelling and spending time at the couple’s caravan.

“A keen cyclist and avid attendee to LA Fitness in Brooklands, Karen’s happy and enthusiastic attitude always shone through to her enjoyment of life.

“A popular member of the Nat West Team in Altrincham, Karen was always the first friendly face you saw when entering the branch.

“She loved a good party and could often be found on the dance floor or socialising at the bar.”

The family added: “A loving family member with so much time for others, Karen would often sacrifice her time to help people, recently completing the Manchester 100 Cycle for charity.”

PC Neil Pennington, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts and sympathies go out to Karen’s family, who are being supported by specially trained officers at this tragic time.

“We have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision. If you were in the area on Friday evening and witnessed the incident, please get in touch as soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741.
