Beware, we are better: Stronger Real Madrid will conquer Manchester United, warns emotional Cristiano Ronaldo

In a warning shot to Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo insists Real Madrid will have the upper hand when the two teams clash at the Bernabeu next Wednesday.

June will mark four years since Ronaldo left Manchester for the sunny climes of Spain, with the former Ballon d’Or winner having already scored 179 goals for Los Merengues.

The Spanish giants’ La Liga campaign may be stuttering – in third-place 16 points behind leaders Barcelona – but the former Red Devils winger believes they can overpower his old club.

"I believe things will go well,” he told UEFA Champions League magazine. “In my opinion Real Madrid have a better team.

“But we have to show that on the pitch because United are a very united team and always have been in recent years.

"They're a team that always do well, every year they're at the top and therefore a team we respect a lot. It will be an extremely difficult match, especially in Manchester."

The Champions League tie will be the first time the two sides have met since 2003, in which Madrid edged United 6-5 over two legs.

Now Ronaldo – who stated he will not celebrate should he score against the Red Devils – puts the renewed rivalry down to destiny.

"I actually said beforehand that I believed we would draw Manchester United," said the Portuguese.

"I've wanted to face them for some time. I have great memories from my time there.

"It will be a match in which I will feel a lot. I was there for six years. I have a lot of friends there, people I will see with great pleasure, it will be a match with a lot of emotions."
