Great Amnesty Quiz: Manchester game night offers chance to have fun and work for human rights

The Great Amnesty Quiz is coming to Manchester as part of a week-long national tour.

The contest – which takes place on Thursday – offers quiz teams the chance to compete for great prizes all in support of Amnesty International’s fantastic work for human rights.

The event has been organised by local Amnesty groups and will not only give competitors a chance at local glory but will also allow them the added opportunity to claim a coveted national prize.

This is because the same set of questions will tour the country to find the most rightful champions between February 4 and 9.

The Lloyd’s Bar and Restaurant in Chorlton will play host to the quiz this Thursday, February 7.

Opening at 7:30pm for an 8pm start, tickets are available on the door and are priced at £2 per person. Amongst the prices will be a £50 bar tab.

Speaking about the event, Helen Robertshaw, Chair of the Stockport Amnesty Group, said: “The Quiz Nights are a fun way to spread the word about Amnesty’s work for human rights and to raise some funds.”

Amnesty International has campaigned for the upholding of human rights, particularly freedom of speech and the right of assembly for nearly 60 years.

It is entirely funded by donation and relies on the support of the public to carry on its valuable work throughout the world.

The Manchester Group has been working for several years for the release of Ahmed Mansoor and Nasser Bin Ghaith, two human rights defenders imprisoned in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and will have information on these cases at the event.

Anne Walker, Secretary of the Manchester Group, said: “We are delighted to have such great support from the team at the Lloyd’s Bar. They are generously providing prizes including a £50 bar tab for the winning team and the landlord, Sam, will be our quizmaster.”
