Moves like Hatton: Hitman launches Hyde-based boxing training academy

By Ed Owen

Throughout his celebrated career, Ricky Hatton was always a great practitioner of the sweet science – now he is passing on his secrets through the newly-established Hatton Academy.

Through the academy’s boxing for fitness course – launched yesterday – the 34-year-old former world champion will show fitness and boxing professionals how to enhance their own methods.

The Hitman – who already runs his own promotion company – has marked himself out as a successful trainer, taking Sergey Rabchenko to a European title.

He said: “I feel very proud to be in a position where I can pass on the skills I’ve learnt in all my years as a boxer.

“Boxing training can benefit everyone – it isn’t about learning to fight, it’s about improving fitness, strength and stamina.

“It doesn’t matter if your interest is in football or tennis, or you’re just someone who wants to lose a little bit of weight, learning about boxing can help you achieve your targets.”

The Hatton Academy is the only boxing for fitness course in the UK to have official accreditation from the British Boxing Board of Control, the Register of Exercise Professionals and the Amateur Boxing Association of England.

The course – run by Ricky and the academy’s Training and Educational Director Jon Eade – will cover two days of basic boxing technique, pad-holding principles and functional training methods.

On completion of the course, participants are given two certificates and the chance to join TEAM Hatton, allowing them to deliver Hatton boxing classes and be listed as a trainer on the Hatton website.

Mr Eade has more than 14 years experience in the fitness industry, and alongside working in the world’s best health centres, he has been teaching boxing to instructors since 2007.

He said: “Ricky has brought a great depth of professional boxing knowledge to the course content – no other course can offer such in-depth skills and training methods in boxing.

“The course will give you all the tools you need to structure and teach safe and effective boxing techniques.

“We already have over 2000 instructors qualified, and now with the launch of TEAM Hatton the benefits for these instructors is endless.”
