CCTV: Newton Heath teenagers battered in broad daylight and left with broken bones after gang pounce from cars

By Glen Keogh

Disturbing CCTV footage released yesterday shows the moment around 12 men jumped out of three cars in Newton Heath and attacked a group of young teens.

When the three cars pull up on Briscoe Lane, the men, who are seen to be much older and muscular, leap out of their vehicles and go after the youngsters.

A 15-year-old boy was chased onto Harringay Road and suffered a broken arm and facial injuries which required stitches in the vicious assault at 2.20pm on Saturday.

A 15-year-old girl’s face was so badly beaten that her cheekbone was fractured.

Detective Constable Paddy Connell, said: “The offenders have driven up to the victims and launched a deliberate and sustained assault on a busy street in broad daylight, leaving them with extremely nasty injuries.

“We are working hard to establish exactly why they were assaulted and who is responsible.”

After giving chase to the teens, the offenders then got back into their cars – a silver Peugeot 306, a black Volkswagen Passat and a dark coloured Vauxhall Astra – and drove off along Briscoe Lane towards Ten Acres Lane.

One of the offenders described in more detail from the footage is said to be between 30 and 35 years old, of heavy/muscular build, tanned and was wearing a beige top and beige trousers.

DC Connell added: “Did you see the incident or do you know those responsible? If you have any information please come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 3832, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
