Nothing is in the bag...yet: Manchester United skipper Nemanja Vidic says too much talk of Treble could cost the lot

Nemanja Vidic is warning that too much talk of the Treble could damage Manchester United’s chances of winning any trophies this season.

The Serbian centre-back claims that while all three trophies are within touching distance, too much ‘pressure’ could fling them out of reach.

Hopes to recreate the legendary 1999 team’s achievements have abounded as the Red Devils enjoy a 12 point lead in the Premier League, and quarter final and last-16 places in the FA Cup and Champions League respectively.

But the United captain was wary of dreaming of treble glory too soon.

“If you look at where we are then, yes, we are still in all three competitions,” he told The Sun.

“I have been here for seven years and people have always spoken about 1999 and the Treble team. We of course want to win but I don’t think we should be pressured by that.”

The defender pointed out that they must stay ‘focused’ and ‘sharp’ and only look as far forward as the next game.

“This week we have Real Madrid and Chelsea in the Champions League and FA Cup, so this is what I am saying,” he said.

“It looks a great season now, but it will only be a great season when it is finished and we have the trophies.”

But 31-year-old didn’t rule out the possibility of treble success should the Reds get past Real Madrid tonight.

“It would be great to win it again but it is a big ask, a difficult ask,” he said.

“Three trophies? We can do it, but everything has to be the right way.”
