Edin Dzeko may be linked with a move away from Manchester City this summer, but that has not stopped him recommending a signing for boss Roberto Mancini in compatriot Miralem Pjanic.
French newspaper L’Equipe claimed this month the Bosnian playmaker – Dzeko’s international teammate – could replace an unsettled Samir Nasri.
And Dzeko has given the Roma midfielder – who could be available for around £20million – his stamp of approval to the City manager.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if Pjanic came to City, and I sincerely hope he does,” said the striker.
“I have recommended Pjanic before to Manchester City – they know all about him.
“On one occasion, the manager, Roberto Mancini, asked me whether Pjanic was Bosnian. I said: ‘Of course he’s Bosnian!’”
Pjanic has suggested he may move away from Stadio Olimpico and, with compatriot Dzeko at the Etihad Stadium, City could be top of his list.
The 23-year-old recently told SportSport.ba: “It’s nice when your name is linked with big clubs in Europe.”
Dzeko’s City future has been the subject of recent speculation and if he were to leave City – as many expect him to – Pjanic may be less inclined to join the club.
However, the striker has said the reverse is true and his future in the North West could depend on whether Mancini makes a move for his compatriot.
He added: “If ‘Mire’ came to City then I would certainly not want to leave the Etihad.”
