Salford City Reds star Liam Foran desperate to make amends for fans after Warrington Wolves thrashing

By Mark Shales

Salford City Reds halfback Liam Foran is desperate to make amends for his side’s humiliating defeat to Warrington as the rebuilding process under head coach Brian Noble continues.

The Reds conceded 12 tries at the Halliwell Jones stadium last Sunday – their heaviest defeat in more than two years and their third against the Wolves this season.

And after seeing off Widnes Vikings in fine style at the Etihad Stadium just a week before, Foran admits Salford need to focus on consistency.

“It was so disappointing,” he told MM. “We spoke about turning the performance around from the last time we were at Warrington, so to then to have leaked so many points was just so disappointing.

“Everyone saw our Magic Weekend performance the week before but there were patches against Warrington where we looked a completely different team.

“We’ve just had to go back to the drawing board and work out where we went wrong compared to the week before, but it’s just about that rebuilding progress.

“You could see in our Magic Weekend performance what Nobby’s brought to us, but as team we need to start turning up because we’re the ones playing.

“We need to switch on and give a better performance for the fans, for the club and for ourselves.”

The 25-year-old Australian arrived at Barton from Manly Sea Eagles in February, along with teammate Vic Mauro, after four years in the NRL.

While naturally a halfback, the former Melbourne Storm player has moved into a more number-nine role recently, interchanging with first-choice hooker Wayne Godwin.

Noble’s men entertain Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Monday night before taking a week off as England face the Exiles.

And Foran believes the next two weeks could be key for the on-going progression of the club.

“We’re in with a good shot on Monday,” he added. “We’re playing at home and we need to give the fans something because it was pretty embarrassing last weekend.

“We need to stay tight and continue working on the things we didn’t do too well at Warrington, which was defending around the ruck.

“Everyone will probably see the week after as a chance to get closer as a team and try and come back afterwards ready to rumble.

“We need to start stringing some good performances together week-in week-out.

“We can’t go from the Etihad performance and then turn up like we did last week – it’s not good at all.”
