Northern Quarter’s Beermoth launch homebrew competition to support International India Pale Ale Day

By Ben Southworth

Grab your chance to quench thirst, tickle tastebuds and experiment by brewing a beer at a professional brewing company.

Beermoth, a specialist beer store, have launched a homebrew competition to support the International Pale Ale day which, this year, falls on August 2.

The winning brewer will get to brew a batch of their India Pale Ale on a larger scale with Jay Krauss at Quantum Brewing Company, based in Stockport.

Co-owner Scott Davies said: “We just wanted to do something a bit different to show that we support home brewers.

“Hopefully entrants will come up with some innovative beers and the winner will be announced on August 1 which has traditionally been International Ale Day.”

Entrants must submit two bottles of each at the Beermoth store located at 70 Tib Street in the Northern Quarter.

The competition is only accepting India Pale Ale style beers and entries must be by 7pm July 24.

Competition Rules:

  • India Pale Ale style beers only.
  • £5 entry fee.
  • Up to three different beers can be entered per person.
  • You must submit two bottles of each beer.
  • A note confirming your name, contact details, beer name and alcohol by volume should be attached to each bottle of beer by an elastic band.
  • No other labels or markings should be attached to the bottles.

Beermoth, which opened in February, is quickly establishing itself as the go-to beer shop in the city.

Further helped as its owners – Scott and Jeremy Stull – have a great depth of knowledge and experience.

Scott was previously the manager of the Knott Bar, while Jeremy, originally from Kansas, used to work at the Port Street Beer House.

The owners added: “Competitors are welcome to bring extra bottles of their beer to Beermoth’s tasting room for all to share from 7pm on August 1 where the winning India Pale Ale will be announced.

“Good luck and don’t spare the hops!”
