And on the seventh day God created... roadworks: This week's traffic disruption across Manchester

Commuters face further traffic misery as the Highways Agency announces more August roadworks.

Works are proposed to last seven days beginning on Monday August 6.

Overnight roadworks on routes around Manchester will be delayed due to Olympic Football at Old Trafford and will include park and ride sites.

New schemes proposed regarding the M60, A34 South Manchester and Cheadle will see four months of closures between junctions 2 and 4 of the M60 and along the A34 while a major programme is underway to reduce congestion and improve safety.

From Wednesday August 8 various traffic restrictions will be in place including daytime hard shoulder closures along the M60 anti-clockwise for 2 miles, a 50mph speed limit through narrowed lanes, and overnight closures of slip roads.

Overnight closures will affect:

M56 eastbound Sharston Link between Junctions 3 and 1.

M60 anticlockwise between Junctions 5 and 3.

The entry slip road from the northbound A34 onto the anti-clockwise M60 at Junction 3.

M60 Junction 3 anti-clockwise exit slip road onto the southbound A34.

M60 Junction 3 clockwise exit slip which merges with the anti-clockwise exit slip before meeting the southbound A34.

Work is expected to be completed by Friday October 5.

M6 Between Junction 41 - 43
There will be night-time closures of two lanes on the M6 northbound while reconstruction of the carriageway takes place.

The closures will be in place from 8pm to 6am from Monday August 6 until Saturday August 11.

There will also be a 24 hour closure of lane one on the main carriageway on these dates.

From August 13 to August 18 two lanes will be closed on the southbound side.

A 50 mile-per-hour speed limit will be in place when the work is carried out.

The slip roads at Junctions 42 and 43 will also need to be closed during some nights, when motorists will be diverted to the next junction on the motorway.

Schemes which are currently on-going include:

M60 Junction 23, Dukinfield
The exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5m until Saturday August 18 for resurfacing work. Diversions will be in place.

M65 Junctions 1a to 2, Bamber Bridge
The westbound side of the motorway will be closed overnight between Junctions 1a and 2 until Friday August 31 while resurfacing work and bridge upgrades are carried out.

The work will take place betwene 10pm and 5am, and a diversion will be in place.

A66 Dubwath to Thornthwaite
There will be lane closures and temporary traffic lights for drainage work until Sunday September 23.

M58 Junction 5, Lancashire
From Monday July 16 until Monday August 13 there will be overnight slip road closures on the M58 between 10.00pm and 5.00am while survey work is carried out.

The eastbound entry slip roads from the A577 northbound and southbound will be closed from Friday July 20 until Monday August 13.

Clearly signed diversions will be in place at all times.

M6 Junction 27, Standish
Work is taking place between Friday June 15 and Thursday August 23 when lane three in each direction will be closed.

During this phase there will be narrowed lanes and a 50mph speed limit.

The hard shoulder will be used as an additional running lane to ensure three lanes of carriageway are maintained in each direction.

Installation and removal of traffic management at the beginning and end of the second phase of the work will require the northbound exit and southbound access slip roads to be closed overnight.

Clearly-signed diversions will be in place during these times.

A66 Brough By-pass
There will be daytime lane closures and two layby closures from 6am until 8pm, and night time lane closures westbound from 8pm until 6am for surface repairs from Sunday July 29 until Monday August 13.

Work being carried out by other agencies on the Highways Agency network include:

A663 Chadderton
There is a 30mph speed limit for all traffic on the A663 between Whitegate
Lane and Milton Drive until the end of August, while junction construction and improvement work is carried out.

Work of the Highways Agency Network which may affect Highways Agency Customers include:

M6 Junction 31
Drivers are warned of possible delays in the Fulwood area of Preston around the M6 Junction 31a as two extra lanes are added to the motorway slip road, which takes traffic from the motorway onto Bluebell Way.

Traffic signals will also be added to the roundabout.

The work is being carried out by the council on behalf of the Homes and Communities Agency.
