Tributes have poured in to pay respects to Jaye Bloomfield, the cyclist who was killed on Saturday on Mancunian Way.

Jaye, 44, a town hall worker from Whalley Range, was pronounced dead at the scene after the accident which happened at around 3pm on the slip road heading from Princess Road to the Mancunian Way.

Her death came one day before the Sky Ride event, a celebration of cycling in Manchester attended by thousands of people.

The family and friends of Jaye expressed their deep sense of loss at the tragic death of Jaye.

They said: “Jaye had recently completed a college course and she was in the process of setting up her own business in web design.

“Jaye and Gemma (her partner) had an amazing civil partnership on the 18th of August last year surrounded by family and friends and were making plans to celebrate their first anniversary this month.

“Jaye was the beloved only child of a devoted Linda Bloomfield who is devastated at her sudden death."

They described Jaye as a 'well-loved friend with a wicked sense of humour', who had been a avid cyclist for two years. As well as her love for cycling, she was also a big music fan.

“The family take some comfort from the fact that Jaye died doing something that she enjoyed and that her death was instantaneous," the statement continued.

“We have been overwhelmed by the love and support from friends, family and strangers.
Jaye made a lasting impression on those around her.

“She will be remembered as a unique individual.”

The driver of a black SEAT Leon was arrested and has now been bailed pending further enquiries.

A Manchester council spokesman also expressed devastation at her death and said: “It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of a city council employee who was involved in a tragic accident this weekend.

"Our thoughts are with their family and friends. The full details of the incident are not yet known, and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.
