Robin van Shirtsie: Manchester United star tops list of Premier League strip sales

By Colin Rhodes

Manchester United’s Robin van Persie has added another accolade to his growing collection by coming out on top in Premier League shirt sales.

While the popularity might not compare with the league winner’s medal he won with United or the Golden Boot award he received, it is a sign of the Dutchman’s popularity with United fans.

Following his £24million move to Old Trafford the 29-year-old raced to the top of the shirt sales chart with 25% of supporters wearing shirts bearing his name and number.

United players dominate the chart with the top three all playing for the Old Trafford club.

Wayne Rooney, who is the subject of a £30million bid from Chelsea, was second with Shinji Kagawa in third.

Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero came in fourth ensuring that the city is top of the league when it comes to player popularity.

Kitbag.com chief executive Andy Anson told the Mail Online website: “Robin van Persie is a world class footballer and his stunning performance has seen him become one of the most popular players in the Premier League.

“Following his summer move to Manchester United, it’s no surprise that British football fans are happy to show their support by customising replica shirts with his name and number.”
