‘My future? I don’t know’: Ronaldo coy on Old Trafford return amidst rumours of Manchester United transfer coup

By Marios Papaloizou

Cristiano Ronaldo is remaining coy on his future as speculation mounts that Manchester United are striving to acquire the Real Madrid ace’s services.

The former United man has been heavily linked with a return to Old Trafford following reports that he has become increasingly dissatisfied with life in Madrid.

In recent days it has been rumoured that United – having been alerted to Ronaldo’s situation – opened discussions with Madrid over a possible transfer.

“I’m not going to confirm anything – I’m just going to do my job like I always do,” said a tight-lipped Ronaldo to a press conference in Los Angeles.

“My future? I don’t know. At this moment I’m a player of Madrid, the future, I really don’t know.

“Let’s see what’s going to happen  but for the moment, I’m good where I am.”

While Ronaldo’s comments give very little away his reluctance to publicly commit his future to Real will leave fans of the Red Devils with hope of a spectacular Ronaldo return.

The Portuguese player’s future could, however, rest on Madrid’s attempts to recruit Tottenham forward Gareth Bale.

With Real ready to spend a monumental £90million on the Welsh forward, Ronaldo’s future as Madrid’s poster boy could be in jeopardy paving the way for a reunion with United.

Ronaldo was equally cagey when asked about the possibility of Bale replacing him as the world’s most expensive footballer.

“In terms of the transfer fee, you should speak to the coach and the president about that,” he said.

“I have my opinion, but I’m not going to reveal it in front of the cameras.”
