The cake and bubbly without the commitment! Manchester Deaf Institute says ‘I do’ to wedding themed club night

A successful Manchester DJ is finalising plans to launch his next ‘celebration’ themed club night with a twist.

Pop Bubble Rock! director and DJ Ben Hiard will open his second regular club night ‘Crash The Wedding’ at The Deaf Institute on Friday August 14.

The premise of the night will be familiar to most, as the playlist will take a wedding theme, playing the best, but by no means just obvious party hits from across different decades and genres.

Ben said: “Much like Pop Bubble Rock! we do not do pretentious. We want to mix up all different genres you would hear at a wedding.

“But it’s more like your best mate’s wedding than your great aunt renewing her vows. Weddings are all about celebrating and being happy.

“I know the hymns and dried chicken can be a bit boring but everyone knows that the best part of the day is about getting a bit silly and sliding across the dance floor on your knees.”

The night will alternate with Pop Bubble Rock!, running the second Friday of every month, so that nostalgia seekers across the city can get their fix on a fortnightly basis.

Since launching Pop Bubble Rock! nearly nine years ago, Ben has experienced roaring success at different venues across the city, and has decided that now is the perfect time to give people more of ‘what they want to dance to’.

The playlist will steer away from the hey-day pop-punk an hip-hop theme of his existing club night, and party-goers can expect to be entertained with a playlist including songs from Stevie Wonder and Cyndi Lauper all the way through to Taylor Swift and The 1975.

“I had the idea years ago because I figured that everyone enjoys a good wedding,” he said.

“I am getting married next year so planning weddings is a little more close to home at the moment and I just think Manchester really needs a night like it.

“It is quite a unique concept and The Deaf Institute is the perfect venue – they go together quite well.

“I had done a one off PBR there which was a great success. I was familiar with the venue and doing that night there I just realised how much it looks like the best wedding reception you have ever been to- and they are actually licensed for weddings- you can actually get married in that room!

“There’s even a giant mirror ball,” he added.

The Deaf Institute, a venue commonly known for its dance music nights and live bands, has fully embraced the idea of a wedding-themed night.

Katherine Warbuton, club programming manager at The Deaf Institute, said: “When Ben approached me about his Crash the Wedding idea I was super excited.

“Everyone loves a good wedding, especially the evening doo. What an awesome concept.

“Having been to his Pop Bubble Rock! parties I have no doubt that this will be the best wedding disco you’ve ever been to. We are delighted he chose The Deaf Institute as his wedding venue.”

The night will debut at The Deaf Institute next Friday, starting at 11pm, with every guest receiving a free glass of bubbly on arrival.

Tickets are £4 in advance, and £7 on the door.
