Once a blue always a Red: Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini reveals true colours after big-money move

By Marios Papaloizou

Manchester United’s new Belgian powerhouse Marouane Fellaini has revealed that his deadline-day move was the realisation of a dream he has held for more than a decade.

‘Can they score? They always score’ – famous words that echoed around the country as United staged their epic 1999 Champions League comeback – and the moment Fellaini’s dream was born.

The £27.5million man has now told of how the infamous match against Bayern Munich created his long-standing desire to join the Premier League champions.

“I’ll never forget sitting there at home watching that final all those years ago, and I made my mind up then that United were my team,” he told the Daily Mail.

“It wasn’t just the fact that they were European champions, it was the way they did it.

“I was captivated, and it has been a dream ever since that I might one day pull on the jersey and call myself a United player.”

Despite spending his Premier League career with Everton, Fellaini has revealed that he has always been a Red.

“I have counted myself a United fan all these years, and when the call came, I didn’t have to think twice,” said the big haired Belgian.

“In fact, the only thought that crossed my mind was getting it done in time.”

Fellaini’s move was part of a dramatic transfer deadline day that saw United bid for several players.

It was unsure whether or not United would reach an agreement with Everton to sign Fellaini and the player is relieved that the move was concluded in the nick of time.

“The clock was ticking, and when the form was put in front of me, I signed straightaway. I have  never signed  my name so fast in all my life,” he said.

“Nothing was going to stop me seizing this opportunity.”

The former Everton man also confirmed rumours that he had sacrificed a considerable amount of money to ensure that he sealed his dream move.

“It is true that I sacrificed some money, but that didn’t matter. All that counted was getting the deal done and realising my dream,” Fellaini said.

“All I can say is that if Manchester United come to sign you, it is because they want you.

“If you are not worthy of wearing the Manchester United shirt, they will not come for you.”
