Pellegrini calls on Manchester City to deliver points not worry over sending ‘messages to other teams’

By Paddy Dinham

Manuel Pellegrini says Manchester City have their eye firmly focused on their own form and not their title rivals after a 3-2 win at West Bromwich Albion.

Sergio Aguero’s 11th league goal of the season and two from Yaya Toure were enough to see off the Baggies, who rallied with a Costel Pantilimon own goal and a Victor Anichebe strike.

Pellegrini expressed his delight at his side picking up only their second league win away from home and said that it is now up to his side to build a consistent run of form.

“We were not trying to send a message, we were trying to add points which is more important,” he said.

“For us it was important to win away, and we’ll try to do it again on Saturday before we then play Arsenal.”

City travel to Southampton on Saturday hopeful of recording back-to-back away victories after Aston Villa consigned the Saints to a third straight defeat on Wednesday.

The win at the Hawthorns keeps the Blues in third, six points off the top after Arsenal and Chelsea both picked up three points.

Midfielder Toure said that the result will be a huge boost to the morale of the squad and can help them push on to take more creditable victories on the road.

“It was very important to take the three points,” he told club’s official website.

“We know how difficult it is playing away and I think this will give us a lot of confidence for the next game.”
