Manchester United light up Old Trafford… with new advertising boards

By Scott Hunt

Manchester United fans were dazzled at Old Trafford last night – though sadly not by their team’s performance.

The defeat against Everton was the first match which featured the new larger, brighter and clearer advertising boards which have been introduced at the home of the Premier League champions.

Surrounding three sides of the stadium, the boards are designed to display club messages more clearly both in the ground and on TV.

Sir Bobby Charlton believes the new displays are good for everyone involved with the club.

“This development is consistent with United’s history of a pride in being the first in the world, and the best at what we do,” he said.

While the new panels are the largest in Europe, they have been strategically placed so as not to obscure the view of supporters.

The platforms will provide links to social media activities while communicating key information.

Richard Arnold, group managing director, said: “With a global live TV audience of over four billion people a year, this new industry-leading system is another exciting platform to help us communicate with our 659million followers.”

“Being the first football club in Europe to install this system shows our commitment to continuously enhancing Old Trafford and maintaining its legendary status as one of the world’s best matchday venues.”

The bad news for Manchester United fans is that they are languishing ninth in the Premier League, have little chance of retaining their title at this rate and may even miss out on the top four.

The good news? At least they have bright advertising boards.
