The hub of Manchester’s bus network ground to a halt this morning after five buses were involved in a collision in the city centre.
The pile-up occurred at 8.17am on Portland Street close to Piccadilly Gardens.
A source revealed to MM that a suspected heart attack could be the cause of the collisions.
Paramedics are currently on the scene treating those injured and all buses are being diverted from their usual routes.
A spokesperson for Stagecoach Manchester said: “Our first concern is for the safety of our passengers and drivers. We are working with the emergency services to ensure those involved in the incident are given every assistance.
“Safety is our absolute priority and a full investigation into the incident will take place to identify the cause of the accident. We are also working closely with the emergency services to clear the incident to minimise disruption to travel.”
Five buses were involved in the crash. The most serious being a head on collision between a double-decker heading towards Piccadilly and a single-storey bus heading the other direction that had veered across to the wrong side of the street.
