Silva anniversary: Manchester City star David to host Etihad cocktail party for hometown holiday company

By Sam Richardson

Manchester City star David Silva will host an anniversary cocktail party on Tuesday, as the ambassador of a luxury holiday company.

Anfi Group – based in Silva’s hometown of Arguineguín on the south coast of Gran Canaria – has been providing holiday accommodation for 25 years.

The 26-year-old will welcome UK Anfi members to the celebration at the Etihad Stadium, the night after Manchester City’s much anticipated clash with Manchester United.

The midfield magician said: “I’m proud to represent a company that is so important for my island and which continues to create employment for my community.”

An enthusiastic promoter of Gran Canaria, Silva is the face of a Europe-wide publicity campaign as the ambassador for the company throughout 2013.

His recognisable image appears next to photographs of Anfi, with a lot of emphasis put on Anfi’s white sand beach, where he played football as a child.

The adverts appear on buses, taxis, metro stations and in-flight magazines, with slogans such as ‘This is my beach’ and ‘Welcome to my home’.

“Any time I can, I escape to Gran Canaria and the sun to spend time with my family and at Anfi – which for me is a unique place,” he said.

Anfi Group CEO, José Luis Trujillo said he was thrilled to have Silva on side.

He said: “We are delighted to have this local hero as the Anfi Ambassador during our 25th anniversary celebrations.”

The chief executive also took time to wish Silva luck in Manchester City’s upcoming FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea, which will be held at Wembley.

Anfi Group was founded in 1988 by Norwegian entrepreneur Bjorn Lyng. Today the Anfi Group is jointly owned by Anfi International BV and Grupo Santana Cazorla.
