A Bolton woman who died from stab wounds in a targeted attack is being named by police as officers continue their investigations.

Kelly Davies, 31, Farnworth, died at the scene of the confrontation on Queen’s Street just before 1pm on Monday and the post-mortem revealed she was stabbed.

Greater Manchester Police investigating the murder are working round the clock to establish what happened.

Detective Inspector Chris Bridge said: "There will understandably be anxiety in the local community as people hear about the death of this young woman, but I would like to try and offer some reassurance to those who are concerned for their safety that we do not believe this was a random attack.

"However, there will be an increased police presence in the area in the coming days so I would urge anyone with concerns to approach an officer and speak to them, in confidence if needed.

"Our inquiry remains focused on trying to locate the person or people responsible and I would also appeal to anyone who has information to come forward."

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
