Man United legend Phil Neville makes strenuous charity pledge – and he wants others to get involved

Manchester United legend Phil Neville and his wife Julie are encouraging people to join them in raising money for charity.

The couple will be participating in a number of events to boost funds for the Good Life Orphanage, an organisation which provides safe and secure homes for children in Kenya.

As well as pledging to clock up 100 miles worth of cycling, swimming and running, the famous pair are also eager to get others involved with raising cash.

Phil and Julie’s efforts will be for the sponsorship platform, the Wonderful Organisation, and their inaugural fundraising event, called Wonderful Week, which takes place from September 2 – 9.

Footballer Phil – from Bury – said: “We’d like to encourage others to join us in this fundraising initiative and do something wonderful for a charity close to their own hearts.”

While Julie added: “We are absolutely thrilled to be able to do something wonderful for The Good Life Orphanage by taking part as a family in the inaugural Wonderful Week, keeping us fit and raising some much-needed funds.

“As well as raising money for children who need it, we want to make more people aware of the fundraising options available.

“It is now possible, through Wonderful, to maximise fundraising efforts and ensure that all donations go to the intended cause.”

Mancunians need not worry about being excluded from the fundraiser if they’re not sporty.

Instead, other efforts – such as bake sales – are welcomed.

The people of Manchester are able to directly donate money to this worthwhile cause through the Wonderful Organisation.

The platform was launched in early 2017 by businessman and philanthropist Kieron James, who wanted to create a space where people could give money without fear of incurring processing or administrative costs.

Mr James explained: “In this day and age, the five per cent administration fees charged by fundraising sites like JustGiving, plus payment card processing fees, seem like a high price for charities to pay.

“We charge nothing at all, make no deductions from Gift Aid and through the generosity of corporate sponsors, we cover all debit and credit card transaction fees.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Phil and Julie for the Wonderful Week, working towards our shared goal of raising more money for worthy causes like the Good Life Orphanage.”
