Victorian Christmas Market: Lowry shoppers can ‘consider themselves at home’ in Dickens-style bazaar

Victorian Christmas Market: Lowry shoppers can ‘consider themselves at home’ in Dickens-style bazaar

Winter wanderers will be thrust into the enchanting world of Charles Dickens with a variety of street performers roaming the aisles at this week’s Victorian Christmas Market at the Lowry Outlet.

Fine Victorian ladies in period-dresses will be joined by street urchins and their Fagin-like masters as well as wanted criminals, all of whom will be kept in check by Her Majesty’s policeman.

Shoppers can check out the wares on around 100 stalls until Sunday, December 8 and organisers at the Lowry Outlet are extremely proud of the event.

“The Victorian Christmas Market is the perfect place for a magical, family day out this Christmas,” said a Lowry spokesperson.

“Not only will there be a festive fare and shopping to get you into the Christmas spirit, there will also be a host of merry entertainment.”

“You can treat yourself to a warming mulled wine while enjoying live music (and) you can treat the kids with an enchanting ride on the beautiful, traditional carousel.”

The live music will come courtesy of local Brass bands and a Christmas choir who will provide punters with some acoustic splendour as they browse the stalls.

More than 110,000 shoppers flocked to the market in 2012 and with stalls boasting an array of artisan foods, handmade goods, unique gifts and bespoke crafts that cannot be found on the high street, the market is likely to be a popular attraction again.

As Dickens wrote in a Christmas Carol: ‘there is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor.’

It seems there will plenty of that on offer at the Lowry Outlet over the next few days.
