What thrashing? Manchester City's 6-1 demolition derby is never mentioned at United, reveals Alex Buttner

Last season’s shock 6-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester City is never mentioned at Old Trafford, according to defender Alex Buttner.

The leftback joined Manchester United in the summer from Vitesse Arnhem and, since then, nobody has discussed last year’s humiliating derby defeat at the hands of their neighbours with him.

However, he is certain this weekend’s clash won’t follow a similar pattern, as United look to maintain their Premier League top spot and banish their misery of the defeat that was branded the 'worst ever' under Sir Alex Ferguson.

"I don't know about this game," said the Dutchman.

"I was not here and no-one has spoken about it. It won't happen again."

THEY SCORED HOW MANY? Buttner unaware of City's historic 6-1 thumping of United on home turf

Buttner started United’s midweek Champions League defeat to CFR Cluj, but he is expected to make way for Patrice Evra on Sunday.

He was one of two Dutchmen to join the Reds in the summer, along with Robin van Persie, and the 23-year-old knows the importance of the derby.

"I know games like Sunday are very important for the club and supporters," he added.

"If we want to be the champions this season we will have to win this game.

"We will do everything in our power to do this."

United sit three points clear of rivals City at the top of the Premier League and the winner of Sunday’s derby at the Etihad Stadium will end the weekend at the top of the pile.
