Teenager left fighting for his life after being hit by car in Northenden

A teenager is fighting for his life after being hit by a car while crossing a road in Northenden last night.

The incident occurred at 6.15pm on Tuesday January 6, when a grey VW Golf travelling westbound on Palatine Road, collided with a pedestrian crossing at the junction of Gibwood Road.

The man, 19, was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital, where he was treated for a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain.

Constable Philip Turley, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with this young man as he hopefully recovers from this serious injury.

“But it is vitally important that we try and ascertain exactly what happened yesterday afternoon.

“That is why we need anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward and inform officers what they saw.”

He is now in a serious but stable condition at Salford Royal Hospital.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4742.
